[Personality]

Rita is a self-proclaimed and proven genius, with a strong passion for her research and little else. She's filled to the brim with self-confidence thanks to that, and isn't afraid of doing a little boasting. Growing up as an orphan in a city of scholars, Rita isolated herself with her studies. As a result, she’s incredibly independent, and while she may be gifted with technical brilliance, she can be somewhat inept when it comes to connecting to and dealing with other people. Her brilliance only served to isolate her further—the other mages always seemed to be two steps behind her and in time she only saw it as pointless to try to converse with them.

Probably one of the first things most people notice about Rita is that she has one hell of a temper and not much patience to tone it down. Saying that her personality is a fiery one isn’t an exaggeration, and is at times even literal, considering her love of casting fireball spells on those who annoy her. She’s not afraid to let the insults fly when it suits her. Even her new friends are not exempt from this, though as the game progresses, it’s less out of genuine annoyance and more akin to her version of ‘tough love.’

When it comes to social situations, she’s not exactly graceful. She goes for the blunt and brutally honest approach of dealing with people, because dancing around important matters would be a waste of her time. She’s built up a reputation of being prickly and abrasive, and it suits her just fine. Needless to say, this hasn’t won her any friends, and before her journey most of the residents of her hometown of Aspio either treated her with fear or considered her an eccentric weirdo. She’s learned to shrug off others’ opinions of her because of this, but as she gets to know her companions she eventually reveals that she does care about what they think of her.

She gets better at handling people during her travels with Yuri and the others, especially when it comes to Estelle. While Rita from early on in the game sees the princess as something to be studied, Rita from farther along in their journey sees her as a dear friend that she wishes to protect. It’s primarily through her interactions with Estelle that she learns to better deal with others, and the two of them develop a rather tight friendship. Good luck getting her to admit that, though. She’s lightened up considerably amongst her new companions, however anyone who points out how she’s changed will either be sworn to secrecy or be on the receiving end of her fist, while she blushes furiously all the while. She’s still rather unused to opening up to others, and she’ll tend to be rather red-faced and flustered when speaking of anything personal.

A lot of her problems in dealing with people likely stem from her trust issues. It’s clearly demonstrated earlier on in the game that she doesn’t have much faith in people and prefers the company of blastia because “blastia can’t betray you.” It’s for this reason that she developed an intense love for the blastia and subsequently began personifying them. By the end of the journey, she is somewhat more trusting of people, at least as far as her friends are concerned. During a talk with Judith near the end of the game, she admits that she’s begun to see their group almost as a sort of family, and for a girl who’s spent most of her life alone, that’s a big step.

All in all, she is rather stubborn and single-minded. Once she sets her mind on a task, there’s little that can stop her or slow her down. She can frequently be seen going off into her own little world when she’s got a puzzle to solve or theory to prove, muttering to herself and being rather oblivious to everything else around her. She is completely willing to pull all-nighters if she’s on track with something big, such as when she altered Estelle’s formula and developed a replacement for Dein Nomos. She’s been studying blastia and aer since she was at least ten years old, and her dedication and enthusiasm for research hasn’t wavered in the slightest.

Living the life of a researcher as given her a very logical view of the world. To her, everything has a set structure or pattern, can be hypothesized, examined, and tested. Anything outside of this either a) requires more study or b) is dismissed as frivolous and distracting. There’s very little that can unsettle her and cause her to ditch her hot-headed and stubborn façade like the unexplainable does, so talk of ghosts and curses can put her on edge. In fact, it's in dealing with such spooky things that gets Rita to act like the young girl she is.

[Abilities]
Here is a list of all of her artes.

Basically, Rita is a skilled mage who can whip up powerful spells of any element sans wind. And being a mage, it’s typically best if she sticks to long range fighting. If things come down to physical attacks, her weapons of choice tend to be whips, chains, sashes, that sort of thing. She’s also not afraid to whack you on the head with a hefty book.

As for non-combat abilities, Rita is insanely smart. She stood out as a genius in a city filled with scholars, and tends to make short work of just about any problem presented to her.

[Other important stuff]
I'm going under the assumption that her spells are powered by dream energy instead of aer/mana while here in Somarium. If anything's wrong with that, let me know~

And I should probably note that I know next to nothing about the ps3 version of the game, so Rita here will be coming from the 360 version.

[First Person]

- If you were to describe yourself in one sentence, what would that be?
What, you don't know who I am? I'm the unstoppable genius mage, Rita Mordio!

- If someone provoked or attacked you, what would you do?
Attack them back, of course! No one messes with me and gets away with it.

- You are a given a mission. Would you complete it effectively or would you goof off and do something else? Expand a little on the response.
That depends on the mission. If it’s something worth researching, sure, I’ll get it done. But if it’s something frivolous you can forget it. If it’s a mission that the other mages can handle, it’s probably not worth my time.

- What is more important to you: having friends or living on your own? Why?
Easy: I can get so much more work done when I’m alone. [A slight pause and she looks away, a faint blush coloring her cheeks.] But I guess spending time with friends isn’t so bad…

- There is a cake in the rain. What do you do?
Leave it there. Why the hell would I want someone’s discarded, soggy cake?

- Also, your thoughts on symmetry?
[Looks down at her outfit.] You’re kidding, right?

- Am I asking too many personal or strange questions?
Well, yeah. Are we almost done here? I’ve got better things to do, y’know.

[Third Person]

So she was in a new world. A new world meant new possibilities, new discoveries—and Rita was all about new discoveries. Only a couple weeks in, and already she was busying herself with numerous projects. There was so much to look into; the dream broadcasts, the natural resources, and the dream energy were only the tip of the iceberg here. She was feeling giddy just thinking about it.

There was one minor drawback to all of this. None of her friends were around. It’s not like she couldn’t handle doing things on her own, but… there was no longer the comfort of knowing that she could make a trip down to the capital to have tea with Estelle, or run into Yuri or Judith while they were out and about. Hell, she wouldn’t even mind the antics of Karol and the Old Man for once. Not that she’d ever admit it.

She would just do what she did best and distract herself with research. Which was what she was doing now, scrolling through some notes on her dreamberry as she made her way along one of the city streets. There is such a thing as too distracted, however, and she almost doesn’t register the tug at her sash and the rush of air as someone speeds past her. She tears her eyes from the small device just long enough to look down and realize that the small satchel she was carrying was now missing. When she looks up to see a figure hurrying down one of the side-streets, it isn’t hard to put two and two together.

“Hey, you! Get back here!” And just like that, all thoughts of theories and formulas disappear in a flash of anger. She takes off after the pickpocket, following him down the narrow side-street. It doesn’t take her long to realize that the guy is faster than her, and if she kept this up for long, he was sure to get away. There was a better way to handle this anyway. A way Rita was going to thoroughly enjoy.

She comes to a sudden halt, her hands held a small distance apart and an incantation on her lips. She calls to mind the familiar formula, reaches out for the necessary energy, and within moments she feels the familiar heat of fire at her palms. A triumphant grin accompanies the shout of “Fireball!” as she unleashes the spell. The concentrated blaze hits its mark and the thief goes down in a terrified heap, swatting at his clothes to put out the fire.

Rita hurries over to him and quickly snatches up her satchel from where it had fallen from the would-be pickpocket’s grasp. She glares down at the man, whose gaze shifts from her to his singed clothes. “Who do you think you are, stealing from me?” He lets out a rather undignified yelp and scrambles to his feet. When he takes off again, Rita briefly considers launching another spell at him, but decides that it isn’t worth it.

“Hmph. Coward.”

[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] Rita is a character I’ve been wanting to play since before I got into dwrp, and it is a minor miracle that I’ve gone this long without doing so.
